Chicago's Crime and Violence

Crime and violence in Chicago's low income African American neighborhoods will not end until the majority mothers and grandmothers are taught how to properly raise their children.  You may disagree but we African Americans need to end this daily drama of crime and violence.

We could ask the police to come into our homes and arrest our sons, grandsons, and nephews and send them to prison.   We could ask our local government to raise our taxes to fund tutoring and mentoring programs for our boys.   We could also ask charity organizations to go in the homes of young mothers and teach them early childhood development.  There are many things we can do but are not doing.

It all comes down to good parenting.  Many working class and most low income parents have to be taught how to become better parents.  Millions of African Americans became productive citizens because they had good parents, that sent them to good schools, and made sure they were well behave children who got good grades.

The challenge is to marshal the resources and programs that will teach mothers and grandmothers how to raise well behave children who receive good grades in school.

You Never Want A Serious Crisis To Go To Waste

The closing of schools in African American neighborhoods is an opportunity for African Americans to dramatically reduce the crime in our low income neighborhoods. Parents are rightly concerned that their children will have to cross street gang boundaries on their way to and from school.  So I think parents should demand that Mayor Rahm Emanuel, CPS CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett, and Police Chief Gary McCarthy walk their children home from their school every day until the street gangs are removed from their neighborhoods.   

As Mayor Rahm Emanuel, CPS CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett, and Police Chief Gary McCarthy walk through the neighborhoods they will find out where the gangs live and will them legally have arrested.   The young men who want to give up the ganged banger life should be helped to move out of the state of Illinois.   The young who say they want a job should be helped to get a job.  However we must understand every potential criminal is in grammar school right now.

The best long term way to dramatically reduce the crime in Chicago is the help low income women raise well behave boys who read at grade level.

Rahm Emanuel vs.Karen Lewis

 

    

 

Rahm Emanuel vs. Karen Lewis is not our fight!   The Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis is fighting for the interests of her teachers, not the interests of Chicago residents.   Mayor Rahm Emanuel's job is to improve Chicago.  If that means pushing out low income African Americans out side of Chicago, thus lowering Chicago's crime problem that's good for Chicago residents.  If Mayor Rahm Emanuel wants to weaken the Chicago Teachers Union, now that is the Mayor's fight, and should not be the focus of Chicago residents.

Community leaders, political leaders, and concerned citizens of Chicago should focus on helping low income African American parents raise well behaved children who read at grade level.

More Boarding Schools For Wayward Boys

Every future gang banger in Chicago is now attending a public elementary  school.   These boys need to be identified and sent to a down state boarding school.   President Barack Obama and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan should send federal dollars to the Illinois State Board of Education to establish boarding schools for boys who live in an environment that creates criminals.   Boarding schools for wayward boys is just one piece of the ending crime in Chicago puzzle .

Teachers Unions vs. Charter Schools

I asked a pro Teachers Unions proponent this question;


Can you make a good argument why a parent should not the their children to a charter school?

The response:

Hey, Marc: it depends on the kid and the charter school. the larger question is can you make a good argument why it's good for society to devalue the teaching profession by doling out contracts to charter operators who pay their teachers less?

My response:

Union teachers partly allowed urban schools to fail. Thus the Teachers Union allowed the devaluing of the teaching profession.   They should have helped create a education model for disruptive students, who come from destabilized families.   Good parents don't want to, and shouldn't have to put their children in a school with bad children.

My conclusion:

I feel some parents send their children to a charter school because they perceive the charter schools is better than a traditional neighborhood school.   I also feel some parents send their children to a charter school because they perceive the charter school will kick out the disruptive students.

When will African Americans stop the crime in our neighborhoods?

It seems impossible and it feels overwhelming.   The crime, the hopelessness, the lack of belief.   The sense that I can't as an individual, and we can't as a people.  Maybe we should call the police and have them lock up our sons, grandsons, and nephews.   Or maybe the Chicago Public Schools should teach lower income African Americans how to raise their children.  Ending the crime in Chicago is about rising children properly.  It is about using wholesome values to overcome the effects of American poverty.

Who will teach the children of the African American working class and under class  wholesome  values?   This responsibility falls on the public schools.  It will not start in the home for the home, meaning the parents, cannot teach what they do not know.   The public schools will have to teach parents and current students, the future parents, how to raise mannerable children who read at grade level.

African American politicians and preachers have failed, and they should support the Chicago Public Schools teaching parents  how to parent, and helping parents ensure that every grammar school student reads at grade level.
