Chicago's Declining Black Population

The Second Great Migration of African Americans (Colored Negroes Blacks) ended in 1970.  Since then African Americans, especially the lower income African Americans have been hit hard by deindustrialization, Reaganomics, and mass incarceration, just to name three beat downs.

It was good that are parents, grandparents, or great grand parents moved to Chicago for a better life. It is also good if their descendants want to leave Chicago for a better life. It is also good if their descendants want to stay in Chicago and create a better life for themselves and their community.  It’s all good.

A declining African American (Black) population is not the problem, our challenge is to end the distrust that most African Americans have for each other.  If we can end that distrust, Chicago will have a smaller,  but a more vibrant African American (Black) community.

Since 2000, Chicago's black population has dropped by more than 250,000 people.
