CPS School Choice

When a parent chooses a school for their children they want the best education possible. They don't want their children poorly educated, bullied, beat-up, or worse.  According to WBEZ news African American parents, more than other parents, do not send their children to the neighborhood school. Also many CPS teachers do not send their children to the Chicago Public Schools.

Even if Mayor Brandon Johnson is successful in getting the state of Illinois to satisfactorily fund the regular CPS neighborhood schools many parents will still want school choice for their children.

Lead Beyond The Chicago Teachers Union

I want Mayor Brandon Johnson to be successful, but I hope he leads beyond the Chicago Teachers Union social justice agenda.

Mayor Johnson's top focus should be reducing neighborhood crime ASAP.  That means now, not one year or 4 years from today.

One way Mayor Johnson could immediately reduce crime is to make public offers to Chicago's street criminals. He can offer them a job, mental health counseling, or a bus ticket out of the Chicago area to start a new life.

The Chicago Teachers Union has their agenda, but neighborhood crime needs to be immediately reduced.

The Johnson Peter Principle?

I hope Chicago's Mayor Brandon Johnson is successful.  Being the Mayor of Chicago Illinois is not an easy job.  Mayor Johnson is not  inept, but he runs the risk of being an example of the Peter Principle.

Mayor Brandon Johnson's Community Safety Plan

In 2012 Mayor Rahm Emanuel told Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis; “25 percent of the students in this city are never going to be anything, never going to amount to anything and he is never going to throw money at it."

In February 2020 Jens Ludwig Director of the University of Chicago’s Crime Lab told a City Club of Chicago audience; one of the most important things that keeps people out of the criminal justice system is education. It's one of the most important protective factors against justice system involvement.

In June 2023 Chalkbeat Chicago reported 45,000 teens and young adults are not in school, college, or the workforce.

When Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago Teachers Union provide students who are not on a path to a bachelor's degree a relative and practical curriculum, neighborhood crime will dramatically decrease in Chicago.

I hope Mayor Brandon Johnson's community safety plan will have an immediate impact on decreasing neighborhood crime.

Is It Ever Too Late?

Lack of talent, skills, and education prevented me from achieving a lot of my goals. Some of my goals were delusional, but some goals could have been achieved if was more focused.

At 61 years old I may not have the talent, skill, education, energy, or anything else needed to achieve a great goal.  However, I do have some achievable goals.

What has held you back from greater achievement?
