People-Based Versus Place-Based Policies

If asked, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson may say he is implementing people-based and place-based economic policies. I want him to teach some Chicagoans how to conduct themselves in a civilized manner.

These people need to be taught how to act like they got some damn sense!

These Chicagoans throw trash on the ground. These Chicagoans don't sweep the street curb in front of their house two or three times a week. Some of these Chicagoans "be all loud" with their music or arguments. Some of these Chicagoans let their children or grandchildren just hang out in the streets.

Some of these Chicagoans don't use social media or email to be well informed about their community.

Economic investments in a disinvested neighborhood is good, but Mayor Johnson could also teach thousands of Chicagoans how to be good neighbors.

People-based economic policy versus place-based economic policy.

Among economists there is a long-standing debate about the best way to address inequality and poverty should Society invest more in people in their schooling and Health and Welfare or in the places where low-income people live this debate can be reduced to people-based Economic Policy versus police-based Economic Policy play Space policy is focusing on investments in places things that would maybe provide incentives for companies.

Destabilizing Teens & Men

There are only a few students that disrupt a classroom. There could be only a few neighbors that disturb an ordinary quiet block. There are only a few male teens and men that commit crime in a neighborhood.

Why can't city officials and community leaders find these teens and men and provide the services they need stop being a detriment to themselves and other people.

If these teenagers and men who don't want to be helped, they need to be incarcerated or run out of town.

Overall, about 45,000 16- to 24-year-olds in the city are disconnected from both school and work, accounting for roughly 12% of the city’s residents in that age group.
